The Equal Opportunities Unit of Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity held its first meeting following a major restructuring, aimed at strengthening support for working women and promoting equal opportunities across the ministry.
The move aligns with the directives of Dr. Maya Morsi, Minister of Social Solidarity, and forms part of Egypt’s Vision 2030 strategy.
The meeting, chaired by the head of the Central Administration for Family and Women’s Affairs, focused on the unit’s work plan and future vision for enhancing women’s empowerment.
Officials outlined strategies to ensure that policies promoting gender balance are effectively implemented at all levels within the ministry and its affiliated entities.
“The unit’s restructuring is a qualitative addition to the Ministry’s work, as it aims to improve the work environment by adopting incentive policies that consider gender balance and create a supportive environment for working women,” officials said, referencing the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030.
The unit aims to establish a model for equal opportunities for both male and female employees, while strengthening cooperation with government bodies, private institutions, and civil society organisations.
It will focus on ensuring the sustainability of initiatives that support women and combat discrimination and violence, with particular attention to women with disabilities.
Specialising in developing programs that improve the status of women, the unit adopts gender-responsive planning approaches, coordinates with the National Council for Women on complaints offices, provides awareness-raising training for employees, and maintains accurate databases on the status of working women at both central and affiliated levels.
The new structure includes senior ministry officials such as the Head of the Central Administration for the Minister’s Office Affairs, the Head of Strategic Planning, the Head of Human Resources, the Head of Affairs for Persons with Disabilities, and directors from internal audit, legal affairs, women’s affairs, and human rights units.
The Equal Opportunities Unit is now set to serve as a central platform for initiatives advancing women’s empowerment, reinforcing the Ministry of Social Solidarity’s leading role in achieving justice, equality, and inclusive workplace policies across Egypt.
