The Governor of Maradi Region, Police Controller General Mamane Issoufou, officially launched the entrance examinations for the high schools of excellence in Niamey and Tessaoua on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
A total of 187 candidates, including 91 girls and 96 boys, are competing for admission.
The competition is open to students who successfully passed the 2025 BEPC session and achieved an average score of at least 13.50 out of 20.
Candidates are being tested in Mathematics, Physics, and French Composition as part of the rigorous selection process designed to identify the most promising students in the region.
According to the Regional Director of National Education, Harouna Amadou, all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth running of the examination, with no reported difficulties so far.
During his address to the candidates, Governor Mamane Issoufou praised their outstanding academic achievements at the secondary school level, which earned them the opportunity to compete for a place in these prestigious institutions. “You are the best in the region, which means you want to become scientists. And you have every chance of doing so,” he said.
He emphasised that pursuing a career in science requires determination and resilience, urging the students to maintain the same level of commitment they demonstrated in middle school.
“Being a scientist is a long-distance race,” the governor noted, encouraging them to stay focused whether they join the high schools of excellence or continue their studies elsewhere.
The governor also assured the candidates that the competition would be conducted transparently and that only the most deserving students would gain admission.
This initiative aims to nurture the next generation of scientific talent and strengthen the country’s academic excellence.
