Senegal has officially resumed training for 512 Community Security Agents (ASPs) who were previously dismissed, in a move aimed at strengthening local security and restoring confidence in the system.
The special session began on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Captain Mbaye Diagne Tactical Training Center No. 7 in Thiès.
The training combines theoretical lessons with practical exercises, designed to equip the agents with the skills and discipline required for effective community policing.
Amsata Samba Ndiaye, director of training, emphasized the programme’s goal: “The objective is to make these agents models in the service of the Nation.”
Participants had undergone medical and fitness evaluations before being deemed eligible for reintegration.
The session focuses on previously deregistered agents, many of whom were dismissed in 2018–2019 due to indiscipline or repeated absences.
Their return reflects a renewed government commitment to combining rigor with support, aiming to ensure higher service quality and closer supervision of local security initiatives.
Details of the training modules, including the integration of new digital monitoring tools, will be communicated in the coming days.
Community Security Agents were established in 2013 under President Macky Sall to bridge the gap between security forces and local communities, while providing employment and integration opportunities for young people.
The force has grown to several thousand members, but periods of turbulence and mass dismissals have previously undermined public confidence, drawing criticism from unions and NGOs.
This reintegration marks a turning point, signalling the authorities’ intent to stabilise the force and reinforce its role in neighbourhood security.
Observers will be closely monitoring the impact of this programme, particularly as new local security initiatives are being considered.
After completing their training in Thiès, the reinstated agents will be redeployed to communities across Senegal, tasked with improving safety and fostering trust between residents and security personnel.
