Chad has taken a significant step in promoting environmental protection with a public awareness campaign on Law 23, held in the Ngara neighborhood of Moundou on August 17, 2025.
The initiative, part of Tree Week celebrations, aimed to inform residents about the country’s environmental legislation and encourage collective responsibility for natural resources.
Provincial Environmental Delegate Moussa Ahmat Djorou outlined the importance of the law, stressing that it safeguards both flora and fauna while improving the well-being of local communities.
“Law 23 is designed to protect our natural heritage and ensure sustainable development for present and future generations,” he said.
Neighborhood Chief Dionyo Jean-Baptiste urged citizens to familiarize themselves with the regulations to prevent misunderstandings and conflicts.
“Being informed about the law is the first step towards compliance and community harmony,” he stated.
The event also featured contributions from Idogo Mahamat Azina, deputy head of the Forest and Wildlife Guard, who called on residents to cooperate closely with authorities in preserving the province’s biodiversity.
He highlighted that local engagement is crucial for the effective enforcement of environmental protection measures.
As part of the outreach, copies of Law 23 were distributed to community leaders, who have been tasked with further disseminating the legislation within their networks.
The authorities hope this decentralized approach will foster broader understanding and compliance, reinforcing the culture of environmental stewardship across the region.
The campaign in Moundou reflects Chad’s growing commitment to environmental education and legal enforcement, particularly as communities face increasing pressures on natural resources.
By combining legislative awareness with community engagement, officials aim to build a stronger, more informed citizenry capable of supporting sustainable practices.
With initiatives like this, Chad is striving to protect its ecosystems while empowering citizens to play an active role in the stewardship of the environment.
