Presidential candidates in Cameroon have officially selected their distinctive acronyms and colours for the 2025 ballot papers, an essential step in the electoral process ahead of the upcoming vote.
The exercise took place on August 11 at the headquarters of the Electoral Council of Cameroon (ELECAM).
During the session, each candidate formally chose graphic elements that will identify them on the ballot papers, a measure designed to ensure clarity for voters and facilitate a smooth voting process.
This includes unique acronyms and assigned colours, allowing citizens to quickly recognise their preferred candidates at polling stations.
ELECAM officials emphasised the importance of this stage in upholding electoral transparency.
By allowing candidates to personalise their representation on ballots, the council aims to minimise confusion, particularly in a country with a large electorate and multiple contenders.
“This step is crucial to ensure that voters can easily identify their candidates,” a senior ELECAM official said. “It is part of our broader mandate to guarantee a fair, transparent, and efficient electoral process.”
Observers note that this formalisation of acronyms and colours reflects broader efforts by ELECAM to modernise electoral administration in Cameroon. By clearly codifying each candidate’s symbols, the council reduces the risk of errors during vote counting and strengthens public confidence in the credibility of the election.
As the campaign period intensifies, the candidates will now focus on engaging with voters while adhering to the graphic elements officially assigned to them. This stage, though procedural, underscores the meticulous planning required for a nationwide election and marks a key milestone in the lead-up to the polls.
ELECAM has reiterated that all stages of the electoral process, including the assignment of acronyms and colours, will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with electoral law and to maintain the integrity of the vote.
