The United Nations has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a “sovereign, stable and resilient” Burkina Faso, highlighting progress made across multiple sectors in the country, according to its 2024 annual report published on August 11, 2025.
The report praised “the tangible results achieved” by the Burkinabe government and its partners, noting efforts aimed at “inclusive, sustainable and resilient development, leaving no one behind.”
It emphasized that significant strides have been made in priority areas such as health, agriculture, climate action, gender equality, youth empowerment, social cohesion, and equitable access to quality public services.
“Resource mobilization was a major priority in 2024, particularly from international financial institutions and the private sector,” the UN report states, underlining the importance of both domestic and external support in achieving national objectives.
At the request of Burkina Faso, the United Nations has led transformative initiatives designed to strengthen national sovereignty, promote endogenous development, and accelerate resilience across the country.
Key programs include food systems transformation, stabilization and cross-border cooperation, and the humanitarian-development-peace transition. These initiatives aim to foster long-term stability while addressing urgent humanitarian needs.
Looking ahead to 2025, the UN intends to build on these achievements, enhance collaboration with the government and development partners, and scale up financing efforts to ensure the effective implementation of national priorities.
“More than ever, the United Nations reaffirms its commitment to a sovereign, stable and resilient Burkina Faso,” the report states. The UN stressed that achieving these goals will require “strategic alliances” with national institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society, the private sector, and local communities.
As Burkina Faso navigates complex security, economic, and social challenges, the UN’s renewed pledge underscores the importance of collaborative approaches in building a nation that is not only stable but also resilient and self-reliant.
