Eighty-five primary school teachers from both public and private institutions in Bettié, located in the Indénié-Djuablin region, have begun a two-week refresher training aimed at enhancing early school learning, officials announced on Monday, August 11.
The training, held at the Bettié 1 and 2 school group, is part of the National Program for the Improvement of Early School Learning (PNAPAS), an initiative of the Ministry of National Education and Literacy.
The program is implemented by the Directorate of Pedagogy and Continuing Education (DPFC) and is designed to equip teachers with modern tools and strategies to address challenges within the national education system.
The session primarily targets CE1 teachers and school principals and is overseen by a team of five trainers.
The Inspector of Preschool and Primary Education in Bettié, Adama Fofana, highlighted that the training will focus on French and mathematics, subjects considered fundamental to early-stage learning.
“The training offers teachers an invaluable opportunity to acquire the educational tools necessary to improve their professional practices,” Mr Fofana said, urging participants to take full advantage of the initiative provided by the state.
PNAPAS aims to strengthen teachers’ pedagogical capacities, promote effective teaching practices, and ultimately improve the quality of learning for young students across the country.
By equipping educators with the necessary skills, the program seeks to lay a stronger foundation for literacy and numeracy in primary education.
Education experts note that such initiatives are crucial in addressing persistent gaps in early learning, ensuring that students receive a solid foundation that will support their continued academic development. The Bettié training forms part of a broader nationwide effort to elevate the standard of basic education in Ivory Coast.
