President Joseph Boakai has officially dedicated the newly renovated Camp Grant Barracks in Nimba County, marking a pivotal moment in Liberia’s ongoing quest for strengthened national security and military professionalism.
The dedication ceremony, held in Sanniquellie, highlights the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational readiness of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
President Boakai visited both Camp Grant Barracks and Camp Jones Military Barracks in Margibi County, praising the military’s role in completing these vital infrastructure projects.
“For too long, our brave soldiers, who stand guard to protect our hard-won peace and territorial integrity, have had to endure congested and inadequate facilities,” President Boakai said. “Such conditions were untenable. Today, we decisively address this challenge.
These modernized barracks will significantly decongest our existing military facilities, offering our soldiers living and working conditions that reflect the dignity of their service and the respect that this nation and this government hold for them.”
The President lamented that poor infrastructure had long hindered the professional development of Liberia’s military personnel. He stressed that the renovations are not mere luxuries but essential necessities for a disciplined and effective defense force.
“These renovated barracks are a testament to what focused government action and effective partnerships can achieve,” he stated. “They demonstrate our resolve to modernize our national defense infrastructure, brick by brick, barrack by barrack.”
Minister of National Defense Brigadier General Geraldine J. George echoed this commitment during the ceremony, reaffirming her dedication to advancing the prestige and capabilities of the AFL.
She highlighted ongoing projects aimed at upgrading military facilities and emphasized the role of a well-equipped defense force in safeguarding Liberia’s sovereignty and supporting community resilience.
Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeah Gono praised the refurbishment as part of a broader mission to restore dignity to neglected public infrastructure across the region.
She acknowledged challenges around land occupancy but called on citizens to appreciate the strategic importance of a strong military presence in a county bordering Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire.
The renovated barracks stand as symbols of national unity, governmental presence, and progress in a county critical to Liberia’s security and development.
