The 16th ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), originally slated for August 9, 2025, in Bangui, Central African Republic, has been postponed to September 10, 2025.
This change follows a formal request from Gabon.
The rescheduling was prompted by a clash with a significant national event.
The original summit date coincided with Gabon’s National Flag Day, a celebration deeply rooted in national pride and symbolism.
Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema insisted on attending the summit personally rather than delegating his representation, leading to the date adjustment.
“The President wished to be present in person for this important gathering,” officials confirmed.
This upcoming summit is set to tackle several crucial topics that will shape the region’s future. Discussions will focus on deepening economic integration within the member states, enhancing free movement and intra-regional trade, reforming monetary policy to ensure financial stability, and boosting the region’s investment appeal.
The postponement, though unexpected, ensures that all key leaders, including Gabon’s President, can participate fully in these pivotal discussions.
CEMAC, comprising six Central African nations, continues to play a critical role in fostering cooperation and economic development across the region. The upcoming summit in Bangui is widely anticipated to advance collective efforts towards regional growth and stability.
