Dar es Salaam is bracing for a pivotal day in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, as Group B encounters take centre stage on Saturday, 9 August 2025.
Following Friday’s Group C action—where Uganda cruised past Guinea with a commanding 3-0 victory and Algeria battled to a 1-1 draw with South Africa—the tournament spotlight shifts firmly to Tanzania’s commercial capital.
The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium will host two high-stakes clashes. At 17:00 GMT, the Central African Republic face Mauritania in a must-win fixture for both sides if they are to keep their quarter-final ambitions alive.
Later at 20:00 GMT, host nation Tanzania will lock horns with Madagascar. For the Malagasy, the match is nothing short of a lifeline; defeat would end their hopes of progressing.
CHAN 2024 features 19 teams divided into four groups:
-
Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
-
Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
-
Group C: Uganda, Algeria, Guinea, Niger, South Africa
-
Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
Running from 2 to 30 August across three East African nations, this eighth edition of the tournament is designed to spotlight homegrown football talent, featuring only players who compete in their domestic leagues. Organisers hope the competition will boost the visibility and development of African football, while giving local stars a stage to shine.
At the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, intensifying the fight for continental glory.
