Libya’s Ministry of Health is laying the groundwork for deeper cooperation with Serbia in a bid to boost the country’s medical sector, following high-level talks held today in Tripoli.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghoj, the Undersecretary General of the Ministry and acting Minister of Health, met with Serbian Ambassador to Libya, Rodjan Dodorovic, to explore ways of strengthening bilateral collaboration in a range of healthcare fields.
The discussions centered on reviving and implementing existing memoranda of understanding between the two nations. A key focus of the meeting was the potential exchange of medical professionals and academic expertise.
Both parties voiced support for initiatives that would see doctors from both countries engage in joint training, particularly in general and emergency medicine, and the exchange of university professors between academic institutions.
The officials also discussed ambitious plans to launch twinning programs between hospitals in Libya and Serbia, which could pave the way for shared medical expertise, improved hospital management, and knowledge transfer.
“We are keen to activate all aspects of the cooperation agreements signed with Serbia and move towards tangible implementation,” Dr. Al-Ghoj said during the meeting.
Expanding the partnership beyond clinical practice, both sides addressed the development of specialized nursing education, pharmaceutical manufacturing collaboration, and professional training in clinical pharmacy and drug inspection.
“This is an important step towards practical cooperation that benefits both our countries,” noted Ambassador Dodorovic.
To ensure that plans translate into action, the two governments agreed to facilitate technical visits between the countries. A Libyan technical delegation is expected to visit Serbia in the near future to assess opportunities and monitor the progress of joint initiatives.
Today’s meeting marks a renewed commitment by both nations to deepen ties in healthcare and medical education, as Libya looks abroad for partnerships to support the modernization of its health system.
