On the opening day of Egypt’s 2025 Senate elections, Counselor Ahmed Abu El-Ela, a key member of the National Elections Authority’s executive body, led a delegation of international observers from Algeria and Japan on an inspection tour across polling stations in Giza Governorate.
Their mission was to monitor the electoral process closely and verify the availability of adequate logistics and facilities, particularly for the elderly and people with special needs.
The delegation focused their visits on subcommittees in the Kerdasa area, ensuring that polling stations were operating smoothly and inclusively. “They will tour the subcommittees throughout the day,” the National Authority confirmed.
Parallel to this, Judge Ahmed Bandari, Executive Director of the National Elections Authority, engaged directly with committee heads at various levels to assess the voter turnout and the progress of the voting process during the early hours.
His oversight ensured that procedures were being followed effectively as citizens began casting their ballots.
Earlier today, at 9:00 AM local time, the National Elections Authority’s Central Operations Room convened a conference to provide updates on the election’s first day. Voting will continue through Tuesday, August 5, following the completion of overseas voting for Egyptians abroad, which took place on August 1 and 2.
The 2025 Senate elections aim to fill 200 seats — 100 through individual candidacy and 100 through party lists — while the remaining one-third of the 300-member chamber will be appointed by the presidency. A minimum 10% quota for women is also mandated in the Senate.
Preliminary results for the first round are expected on August 12. According to the electoral framework, a candidate must secure an absolute majority of valid votes within their district to claim victory outright. Should a runoff be necessary, it will take place on August 27 and 28. The final official results will be announced on September 4, after the appeals period concludes.
This carefully coordinated electoral process underscores Egypt’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity in its parliamentary elections.
