The Chadian Football Association (FTFA) has appointed Raoul Savoy as the new head coach of the national senior football team, marking a pivotal move in its effort to rejuvenate a squad languishing at 177th place in the FIFA 2025 world rankings.
The Spanish-Swiss manager, who holds a UEFA coaching diploma, brings with him extensive experience on the African continent, having managed clubs and national teams across Cameroon, Algeria, Morocco, and most notably the Central African Republic.
Savoy’s selection follows a call for applications launched on July 1, 2025, and a subsequent evaluation conducted by CAHR Management on July 22. His appointment was officially confirmed by FTFA President Tahir Oloy Hassan, and it has received full backing from Chad’s Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The seasoned coach will operate under a formal employment agreement, jointly supervised by the FTFA and the ministry, signaling a new era of institutional collaboration in Chad’s football governance.
Tasked with the formidable challenge of lifting a team that has never qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations or the FIFA World Cup, Savoy now faces the monumental job of rebuilding confidence, infrastructure, and ambition within the national squad.
Chad’s dramatic fall in the rankings—from a historic 96th place in 2016 to its current 177th—underscores the urgency of the mission ahead. Football observers in the region hope that Savoy’s tactical knowledge and familiarity with African football dynamics will spark a resurgence in the country’s performance.
The appointment is seen as a strategic gamble, but one that could place Chad back on the map of competitive African football if Savoy succeeds in instilling discipline, tactical cohesion, and belief in a team long plagued by inconsistency and underperformance.
