Guinea is moving to reestablish its presence in the aviation sector by reviving its national carrier, Air Guinée, through a strategic partnership with Gewan Holding Company, an investment group headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Guinea and the African subsidiary of Gewan Holding, signaling a significant step in the country’s efforts to restore a functioning national airline.
The agreement, according to Ecofin Agency, outlines a long-term collaboration aimed not only at bringing Air Guinée back to life but also at modernizing the aviation infrastructure and boosting local expertise in the aeronautics field.
The absence of a national carrier has long been seen as a major setback to Guinea’s regional and international connectivity. The government’s push to relaunch Air Guinée reflects a broader ambition to increase the country’s economic competitiveness, particularly in tourism and trade.
Officials believe that this collaboration with Gewan Holding will bring much-needed investment and technical know-how. The project will reportedly focus on training Guinean professionals in aviation-related roles and improving airport infrastructure to accommodate the relaunch of domestic and international routes.
“This is a strategic decision to ensure Guinea is no longer left behind in regional and global air connectivity,” one official noted.
Air Guinée, once a symbol of national pride, ceased operations years ago due to mismanagement and financial constraints. Its revival is now being framed as part of a broader national development strategy aimed at diversifying the economy and enhancing transport links.
The deal is expected to pave the way for significant progress in Guinea’s aviation capabilities, with hopes that it will ultimately position the country as a viable hub for air transport in West Africa.
