The highly anticipated signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government of Cameroon and Yenigun Construction Company, aimed at launching the Limbe Deep Water Port Project, has been officially postponed.
The announcement came on Wednesday, July 31, 2025, through a statement issued by Cameroon’s Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna Ngallé Bibehe.
The agreement, initially set to be formalised on the same day, will now be signed at a later, undisclosed date.
“The Minister of Transport informs the national and international community that the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State of Cameroon, represented by the Minister of Transport, and the company Yenigun Construction for the implementation of the Limbe Deep Water Port Project, initially scheduled for July 31, 2025, has been postponed to a later date,” the official release stated.
No reason was provided for the delay, and neither party has confirmed a rescheduled date for the event.
The Limbe Deep Water Port is considered a major strategic infrastructure project for Cameroon, designed to bolster the country’s maritime capacity and provide a critical logistics hub on the Atlantic coast.
The port is expected to play a key role in regional trade, reducing congestion at the country’s existing ports and offering an alternative route for goods in and out of Central Africa.
Yenigun Construction Company, a foreign firm with extensive experience in large-scale infrastructure, had been engaged to partner with the state in this ambitious project.
The delay in the MoU signing has prompted questions among stakeholders and industry observers, with many awaiting clarification on the next steps for what is seen as a transformational development initiative.
