In response to a recent surge in arrests across the country, the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) has launched an urgent nationwide appeal for legal professionals to mobilize and uphold constitutional justice through the provision of fair trials.
The OAA, through its National Council, announced the immediate formation of legal teams tasked with monitoring upcoming summary trials, stressing that these efforts are critical to ensuring respect for legality, impartiality, and due process.
“The presence of lawyers in these proceedings is essential to the credibility of the judicial system and to ensure that procedural acts are carried out in compliance with citizens’ legal guarantees,” the Bar Association stated, reaffirming its constitutional role as a key pillar of justice administration in Angola.
With tensions rising over the reported number of recent detentions, the OAA’s initiative is being coordinated by its Provincial Councils and Delegations.
These bodies will integrate available lawyers into a coordinated and impartial legal response aimed at preventing abuses and protecting the rights of the accused.
The statement, signed by José Luís Domingos, President of the National Council of the OAA, invites all willing legal practitioners to participate in this critical effort.
