The Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in Brussels has officially launched registration operations for the country’s new biometric passport, marking a key milestone in the government’s efforts to modernise official documents and enhance identity data security.
In a statement released on Monday, July 15, 2025, the diplomatic mission—accredited to Belgium, the Netherlands, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the European Union—announced that biometric registration services are now available for Congolese nationals residing within the Benelux region and those who interact with the DRC’s European Union delegation.
According to the embassy, “all logistical and organisational arrangements have been made to ensure efficient service and a quality welcome” for applicants seeking to obtain the upgraded travel document.
The launch, it said, aligns with national directives to secure and modernise the country’s identification systems.
The new biometric passport incorporates advanced digital features designed to combat identity fraud and streamline border processes. Its introduction is expected to bring the DRC in line with international standards for secure travel documents, facilitating smoother movement for Congolese citizens globally.
Officials at the embassy assured applicants that the registration process will be conducted with strict adherence to data privacy standards. Dedicated teams have been mobilised to manage the increased demand anticipated during the initial rollout period.
The move forms part of a broader initiative by Congolese authorities to reinforce digital governance and public service delivery.
With thousands of Congolese nationals living in the Benelux region, the embassy says the launch represents a significant step toward improving access to consular services for the diaspora.
Registration operations will continue in the coming weeks, with the embassy encouraging eligible individuals to schedule their appointments promptly.
